I love that you love your sweetheart after all these years! And that you've shared some of the differences you share! We're coming up for 40 years and we are so different but somehow manage to make it all work. In terms of how much time to spend on Substack (or any kind of social media), I wonder what you'd be doing instead? Why does Sam think it's too much? Just curious because it's something I think many of us do for a variety of reasons - I'm not writing in Substack much but am on other social media accounts and it does take time. Anyway, thank you for your questions and wishing you a great trip!

I also love the Carnavalet! Why don’t people talk about it more?

J'aime Paris. Mon préferée: le Panthéon, of course; seeing Voltaire's tomb. In all visits to the City of Light, my June séjour for a writing retreat on the Rive Gauche was the first time I got to spend time at that hallowed space.

Very envious, Debbie, that you are there now with your sweetheart.

And, of course, I too say yes to long relationships, with us at 63 years if you count the period before marriage! We are the very lucky ones and I thank my lucky stars frequently for it. It just keeps getting better. And as for Paris, it has been our second city for thirty years. Say no more.

Oui, c'est vrai. tu dois me dire quand vous serez à Paris et j'essaierai de passer outre la Manche.

All I can say is you are a terrifically lucky lady! (And yes, your husband is handsome) I visited Paris, Verdon, Nice, and Provence last spring. Loved the sites, food, cafes, and how people took their time.

Oh, I love Paris! My youngest daughter lives there with her fiance, and for a time both my daughters lived there and I love having an excuse to visit often. Enjoy it to the fullest!

What I loved most about Paris: the architecture. And the pain au chocolat!

Do *you* think you spend too much time on Substack?

I'm always trying to figure out where I spend my time and whether the balance is right ...

Jenn, I don’t think I spend too much time because I love being part of the Substack community as well as publishing my own work. 🤓

Is it possible to spend too much time on Substack? I don’t think so

I fell in love a lot once - delirious, passionate, compulsive sex plus someone thinking you're amazing. Wonderful!

Never quite lasted, though, of course, I am amazing.

What does more than last is love growing over years. Filled by someone's loving kindness, generosity, problem solvingness, and so many other great virtues. (Tip here for the young: get together with a truly good and interesting person. Ignore Heathcliffe)

Gets better and better. But it's not being 'in love'. It's love.

Mark & I often look in awe at each other as we share the realization that we have been married for 42 years and continue loving it.

Although we share many of the same interests, we also have our own personal interests. I have had a life long passion for India. I travel annually to South India as a medical volunteer and North India to learn from my yoga Master. Mark prefers his home, a good book, a cup of hot chocolate and the joys of “Maggie” our chocolate lab.

Although quite different in many of our interests, we find great comfort in each other. And still say to each other with great ease,

“I love you”

Sam and Jeff would bond. Jeff never says that I spend too much time on Substack but he has made jokes about my nose hovering over my phone.

Jeff and I have been married 33 years. I was thinking of writing a book about how to have a successful marriage. I feel blessed.

Have you been to Le Procope? It's the oldest restaurant in the same location in the world. Voltaire dined there. I love the history in Paris.

CK, haven’t been to Le Procope; should try it!

I can’t comment much on long-term relationships because I’ve never been in one, but my parents were together for over 55 years and Dad followed Mum as soon as he could, because life wasn’t the same without her, so I’m thankful that you and Sam have a similar thing going on.

I walked some dogs after reading this earlier and was thinking about the time we spend on social media. I only use Tumblr and Substack and I’m careful who I follow and interact with, and how much time I spend online, because it affects your life tremendously. The way I use both is to stimulate thought and to give myself access to people in other parts of the world, because knowing only your ‘own kind’ Is not enough. You’ll know if your Substack is intruding into other parts of your life. If that’s the case, then try once a fortnight perhaps for publishing posts. But Substack is a very stimulating and interesting place. Does Sam use it much? He might find it just as fascinating if he looked a little more into it. Always food for thought on here. Thanks so much for your contributions to my life. 🤗🤗

You covered the important bases today! Travel while you still can and if you have a long-time travel buddy, that's even better. Yes, some of us know what it's like to be intensely in love all of the time, to the point nobody would believe it. The best part is this is you and Sam and everyone else has their experience and story. Whether you publish on Monday or Saturday or any other day makes no difference. Everyone has their face in their phone every day. Period.
