Thanks so much for this post. While I have been writing my whole life, the new experience of podcasting is a delight because of the "live encounters" and exchanges with the people interviewing us, which help us bring our ideas to life. The focused, disciplined exchange with dedicated people who care about the subjects is generative and surprising. I am a social person, yet also thrive with the interiority and creativity of the writing process. Had we not spent the time researching and writing our book, we wouldn't be on these platforms to start with. The podcasts have helped us hone our ideas so their growth doesn't end with the published work. I guess I am saying...both are wonderful! Thanks for generating this conversation.

Caryl, thanks for pointing out how writing and podcasting play off against each other. So true! Trying to do both is proving to be challenging. I will figure this out!

I agree with Noel Coward, who famously said: "Work is more fun than fun."

You, Bob, are an unapologetic workaholic! But I do love the quote. And I get it.

I find that writing soothes the savage beast inside of me and gives me a sense of purpose. Podcasting, on the other hand, takes me away from writing. You see, as I get older, I find my desk littered with tasks. I find that when I'm listening to a podcast, I have to listen intently, which takes me away from getting my tasks done. My mind does not allow me to multi-task that way anymore ;-)

Multi-tasking - and whether we can really do it - is a great topic. Thank you!

Dee, how great to hear from you! Substack is wonderful as a publishing platform but also quite challenging. There are so many writers. How does one get found?! Reminds me a lot of the early days of blogging and the blogosphere as we called it. A lot of us knew each other back then because there weren’t that many of us. Tx again for saying hi.

I’ll never forget walking into a fancy hotel bar in downtown SF and bumping into my blogosphere buddy Debbie 😉
