The world has been so shaken, and the surreal has replaced our every day routines, our loves, our cares and left us paralyzed. Community is the strengthening bond to help us stay connected and reorient us to the awful matters at hand.
I feel your frustration. I came to the game late on both Substack and Medium. I started writing on Substack after my book was published in ‘23, but used it mainly as a newsletter for my readers. I realized after a year I had boxed myself in and felt overwhelmed trying to figure out how to utilize notes and chats and video, etc, so, with the help of a mentor, shifted my attention to Medium. Very easy platform to understand and navigate. Except when they opened the platform up to over 70 countries, people figured out how to game the system and and for writers writing good content, pay out was, and still is, reduced by up to 90%! So it was back to Substack, where I just started to get the hang of it when everyone and their uncle started piling on to it…politicians, journalists who left the networks, famous authors, celebrities, influencers, all with a huge follower base. It was a despairing moment for me, thinking who in the hell wants to pay or even subscribe for free to my little Substack? I am not saddled with imposter syndrome as I was when I was young. After spending 4 years hunched over my computer writing my book, I’ve earned the right to feel great about my accomplishment. I’ve decided that Substack and medium are simply like parking lots where I can park my car for free. Meaning, I will write as much as I can about whatever I feel like, knowing along the way I’ll pivot when the time is right. Really enjoyed your live!
Thanks for letting us in to eavesdrop on this meandering chat! Could you see me nodding? :-)
I was just about to hit “post” on a new program — a kind of prepper’s spa for uncertain times, which had come about because I was almost paralysed as a writer. I couldn’t NOT put what’s happening right now at the middle of what I’m doing. 🤷🏼♀️
Idk
Haha
This was a fun conversation… I was watching live and loved how it unfolded
Seth, music to my ears. I felt we were all over the place. Then again... that's improv with Alex.
I got to talk live with him a few weeks ago and it was a pure delight. And I love how he brings in so many wonderful guests, too!

But we need that balance because it seems that almost EVERYONE on Substack is writing about politics and all the horrendous world events
JR, thanks for this. It’s figuring out the balance that’s hard!

Brodee, I couldn't see you nodding (they should have pop-up photos for everyone who comments in the chat box)! The comments and questions were great.
I was stepping out of the shower so lucky for you! 😉😂
